Thermal Exposure
Thermal Exposure
Prolonged exposure to dangerous heat or cold accumulates Thermal Stress. Exposure has a severity that determines its Fortitude test difficulty and how often its effects occur.
| Severity | Fortitude difficulty | Effect interval |
|---|---|---|
| Mild | 8 | 1 hour |
| Moderate | 10 | 30 minutes |
| Severe | 12 | 10 minutes |
| Extreme | 15 | 1 minute |
| Lethal | 18 | 1 turn |
At the end of each effect interval:
- Make a Fortitude test against the exposure's difficulty.
- On failure, gain 1 Thermal Stress.
- Take
Xd4Heat or Chill damage, whereXis your current Thermal Stress. Hot environments deal Heat damage and cold environments deal Chill damage. - Lose Stamina equal to the damage received after flat resistance.
Temperature exposure damage cannot be blocked or dodged. Thermal Strain cannot reduce your Stamina below 0 and therefore does not trigger Stamina Overpay. If resistance reduces the damage to 0, you lose no Stamina.
Thermal Stress has no maximum. Each third level of Thermal Stress causes 1 point of Fatigue. This does not remove Thermal Stress.
Each point of Fatigue gained this way requires 1 hour in a safe environment to remove. Appropriate, controlled exposure to the opposite temperature reduces this time to 30 minutes. Dangerous exposure to the opposite extreme follows these rules normally and does not count as safe treatment.
After all Fatigue caused by Thermal Stress is removed, your Thermal Stress resets to 0.
